Returning a Ford Escort RS Cosworth back to factory specifications

The Ford Escort RS Cosworth was in production between 1992 and 1996. It’s a rally car for the road, created to homologate Ford’s World Rally Championship car. Just over 7,100 of these rally cars were produced, making them a relatively rare model compared to the mass-market performance cars. The Ford Escort RS Cosworth is widely recognised by the iconic “whale tail” rear spoiler, wide arches, and aggressive stance. The Escort RS Cosworth has a 2.0L turbocharged Cosworth YBT inline-4 engine producing about 227 hp, going from 0-60 in 5.7 seconds. They have a full-time all-wheel drive and a 5-speed manual MT75 gearbox and can reach a top speed of 140+ mph.

The Ford Escort RS Cosworth was designed to compete in Group A at rally events. It competed in WRC in the early 1990s and became a fan favourite for its power, handling and turbocharged grunt. Nowadays this rally car is highly sought-after by collectors, especially the original big turbo models produced between 1992 to 1994 and models that have the original factory specifications.

We have recently had a Ford Escort RS Cosworth come into the Speedshop44 workshops for servicing and modifications to return the rally car to its original specifications. Over the years, these rally cars were modified so we are returning this Escort RS Cosworth to a factory standard, which is more valuable and sought after by collectors. Some of the modifications we have returned to factory settings were the green injectors, which were returned to the standard specifications, remapping and we reverted the carbon fibre turbo cover back to the OEM turbo cover panel. Additionally, the brakes were painted gold, which was restored to its standard colour, in addition, the ECU and exhaust are back to the standard specifications.
